Boldly, the little hog walked his way up to the imposing native with a wide-eyed inquisitive look about his expression. "Ah." the reply was short and sweet until the hedgeling opened his mouth again. "But kings are born too, not made." he said very simply. Such an insightful statement seemed very off coming from someone so young. The kid may seem about as naive as a newborn, but there was some things along the way he had picked up through talks, and birthright was a rather short, passing conversation he had once before.
"There are a lot of things people must do because they were born into it. Sometimes you don't get a choice." It didn't sound like something he quite fully understood, but rather that he was just repeating something he had been told before. The sweet voice certainly did not match the weight that statement held.
As soon as he knew it, the pup was up very close to the large powerful echidna without any timidness present, walking around him as he inspected since he didn't get to have a close look at any of the other ones they had passed.

"Yeah.. I suppose so.." The echidna's words rolled slowly from his lips, making it obvious that he was quite confused as to why the child spoke the way he did. It certainly wasn't something he had expected.
As the child appeared to be inspecting Knuckles, the crimson mobian couldn't help but feel uncomfortable. With great care as to not hurt the child, which was all too easy with the echidna's strength, one of Knuckles' massive gloved hands swept down and snatched up the pup by the skin on the back of his neck.
Appeasing a bit of his own curiosity, the echidna momentarily glanced over the child now that he was a bit closer before extending his arm toward Shadow. "You're sure he's yours?" He asked the ebony hog, giving him a skeptical look, "He doesn't look anything like you. Sure doesn't act like you, either."

Shadows eyes narrowed to slits as he kept a neutral expression before he closed his eyes and turned his head away from them "He takes after his mother..." he said before opening his eyes once more and looking at the echidna "Lets just say his mother was my polar opposite in more ways than one." he added before he had a small smile on his face which he kept hidden, memories of the woman who melted his heart going through his mind, remembering the good times he had but steeling his resolve and his emotions was a well practised art for him and he quickly shut up once more.

A squeak escaped the little white bundle as the huge gloved hand whisked him off the ground, though it was more from surprise than anything. His tiny mouth opened and eyes widened slightly at coming face to face with the elder, gaining a greater comprehension of his imposing stature just by being picked up. Not that this intimidated the spine ball, but rather struck him with an impressed wonder. Interacting with anyone but his father for once was a huge excitement in itself, though.
The hedgeling's attention was briefly averted at the black hedge's mention of the mother he never knew, and if anyone could feel the fondness this stark hog felt, it was his mighty perceptual little boy. This attention was short lived as the other spined old man easily won his interest for the moment.
"Wow, long~" He practically exhaled, gawking as he reached out to touch the echina's quills. He was curious to see how similar they were to the ones that the two hedgehogs wore. His sense of personal space was lost to his overwhelming curiosity, as he was elated to be learning and interacting rather than the usual combat training.

"Wha-- hey! Watch it, kid!" The echidna strained his arm a little as he tried to distance his head from the small hedgehog's curious grasp. The elder mobian knew well that his kind's spines could be just as sharp as that of a hedgehog's, thanks to several spars with Sonic and Mr. Ultimate Killjoy. Knuckles took a step closer to the ebony mobian, his arm still outstretched and offering Shadow his child. By the expression he gave Silver, he was clearly desperate to be rid of him.
Even with another 200 years under his belt, the echidna still wasn't the most eloquent or tolerant socializer. Interacting with children properly wasn't the easiest for poor Knuckles, though compared to his social accomplishments with mobians of the female variety he was a natural.
"If you think for a second that I wasn't serious about the two of you leaving, you're dead wrong Shadow." Knuckles stated gruffly, shooting the hedgehog a glare. "I don't want to give G.U.N. a reason to be up here."

Shadow closed his eyes as he received Silver, gently placing the youth down on the ground "Silver...Go play somewhere for a bit, daddy has some stern talking to do with the guardian." he said as he seemed to surprise himself at the statement he made, he'd never though that he would ever say 'daddy' when referring to himself in a sentence, when Silver was safely out of his arms he opened his eyes once more as he slammed a fist into the palm of his hand in front of himself, a sudden wind blowing off of the hedgehog causing all three Mobians quills to stir in the sudden change in the air.
It had been many many years since he had fought Knuckles, the hedgehog believed now that to give his son the break he needed, he would have to beat Knuckles into submission, the echidna didn't scare Shadow, very little things in the world did, and Shadow wouldn't hesitate in levelling this park for his son.

Not even a flinch was elicited from the pup when the he got shouted at, but he did make a small noise at having his curiosity denied and being handed off like a rag. As his father placed him down, the boy's expression turn to that of disappointment, seeing as he wasn't finished with the stranger.
The atmosphere changed when the adults fogged the air with their aggression, Silver's face turning to that of worry. The pup's eyes bounced back and forth between the two old mobians as they exchanged words until his father spoke to him directly. The threatening pound of the dark hog's fist into his palm made the young one flinch, knowing exactly what the old hedge meant by 'a stern talking'. Leaning down a bit in a submissive manner and taking a single step back with one foot, yet still maintaining his fixation to the now agitated adults, the sudden wind that stirred made the hoglet even more nervous.
When the two finished speaking to size each other up, Silver steeled his nerves in a way that would make his name proud, poising himself back up straight and stepping between the two. Boldly facing his old man, the pale kit spread his feet into steadfast stance and raised his hands up into a halting gesture.
If anything gave away the child's lineage, it was his now serious gaze accented by the dark markings at the edge of his eyes that he surely inherited from the larger hedgehog. That stare bore a striking resemblance to the dark hog's own grave eyes.
"If you fight here, there will be no where left to play." He responded to the black hedgehog's order. The word choice of 'play' seemed a bit silly for the current situation, but if the child's statement were to be translated into a more mature way, it would surely mean to be 'How do you expect us to be welcome anywhere like this?'.
As cool as he thought it would be to see the two powerful adults tussle, he didn't want to see a fight done in bad blood.

The simple gesture the hedgehog made was enough to show Knuckles that he was willing to fight in order to stay. The echidna's pupils slitted inside of those amethyst irises, and his gaze bore into Shadow's own crimson pair. His stance shifted just slightly, allowing him to firmly plant his feet into ground in case the hedgehog decided to attack first. "We don't have to fight, Shadow." Knuckles growled under his breath. His lips curled into a scowl, revealing his teeth as they clenched tightly. "But if I have to, I'll throw you off this island myself."
As the echidna was about to advance forward a step, Silver's intervention prevented him from coming any closer. He stared down at the child, again confused by his actions. While Silver's interference was able to momentarily douse the tension between the two adults, there was no telling how long it could last.
"Maybe you should listen to your kid. He seems to have more sense than you."
(( more weird replies. XD sorry. I'm still getting used to Knux. Also, I'm not sure when my Internet is going to stop being crazy. ))

Shadows eyes narrowed as he stared Knuckles slowly lowering his hands to his side, forming into fists clenching tightly before his eyes moved down to his son as he recognised the stare his son was giving him as the same look he always had, this caused the hedgehog to becoming slightly less aggressive "Is there any point in trying to convince you knuckles? My son needs a place to rest, if the constant travelling burns him out, he'll be useless to me as a platform to carry on my genes... G.U.N knows that by taking Silver they will turn him into a weapon and turn him against me...I will be forced to kill him and that would set me back too far and would be beyond annoying." This was a part of Shadow he never showed lightly, despite that he continued to show an emotionless look on his face and his stance remained combat ready, however his voice held a deeper kind of emotion, the emotion of a worried and loving father that regretted his current lifestyle for his son and only wanted to protect his son and try to raise him right.
That in truth his words would have been "If I could leave him somewhere where he will be safe and I can lead G.U.N elsewhere I would do it in a heartbeat...If you were ever a father in the hundred and fifty years I haven't seen you, then you'd understand why I must protect my son" Had his ego not had the last say.

Silver's posture softened in response to his father's words. His wide-eyed gaze returned, the hoglet not actually expecting the rather violent hog to heed his words. The expression he wore was someplace in between utter surprise and appreciation, and the soft, almost inaudible sigh spoke of that. It was incredibly hard for someone so young to understand if this war-worn hog actually cared beyond combat and survival. Any sign of sentiment coming from this cold hedgehog was enough for the tiny pup.
All the talk about G.U.N. and what they would have planned for the potentially dangerous offspring of the ultimate lifeform was beyond this boy however. He just did not yet have a comprehension of the concept of betrayal yet in his short life, so the little white spine ball stayed quiet as the adult spoke, looking over his shoulder at the crimson elder. The golden iris was barely visible out from the corner of his eye, the boy's expression unreadable, but it was closest to that of confusion or pleading.

The echidna's chest heaved, and with it a loud sigh escaped the guardian's lips. <Peh, and here I was thinking you almost cared.> he scoffed to himself, glancing between the ebony hedgehog and his pale furred offspring. With what seemed tremendous effort, Knuckles rubbed at his forehead with one of his gloved hands and have a reluctant nod. The guardian gave in.
"ONE. That's it, okay? And if I catch any sight of G.U.N. up here, you're gone, got it? I have an entire island to protect."
From the corner of his eye, Knuckles briefly glanced down at the hedgehog pup. He couldn't help but feel sorry for the little guy, being so young and already having the damn human military after you. Along with having Shadow for a father. He seemed quite happy, however. For the child's sake, the echidna hoped that he wouldn't grow out of his blissful unawareness anytime soon.
"I'll find you somewhere to stay tonight. I will escort you off first thing in the morning, Shadow."

"Fine by me Guardian..." Shadow figured that the echidna wouldn't be able to see beneath the surface of the hardened hedgehog but he had a sneaking suspicion that his son could, and for all intents and purposes, Shadow would have to work double hard to keep his appearance as a hard father. "One night is all I intended." he said before he knelt down to Silvers level "When we are settled down for the night we'll begin lessons on history and physics, you'll have a trained mind along a trained body." he said before he reluctantly placed a hand on the young hedgehogs shoulder, showing his gesture of reassurance was rare for him but because of all the drama and events happening, the father felt that the child needed some courage and reassurance, even the ultimate life form knew that a small child had their emotional limits despite their innocent.

Silver nodded in agreement for what was planned for him tonight. The boy leaned into the touch of his father and closed his eyes, quietly acknowledging any sign of affection he could get, as subtle as it may be. After a beat, the boy's eyes snapped open after a realization. He jerked from his father a step back and glanced at the island protector.
"A-ah yeah! That sounds like fun, but the sun hasn't come down yet so... we can still stay here and play right?" The hoglet looked back at the adult hog with a slight stutter. The boy really didn't want to waste this day before getting back to the routine, so backing slowly into slight jog he ducked around just past the large echidna, stopping just a couple feet from the guardian, looking over his shoulder right at him.
The hedgeling made a very subtle gesture with his eyes meant for the echidna signalling to follow, resisting making eye contact with his father in hopes he didn't notice the gesture. The pale boy then briskly made his way for the lake once again, looking to the hero's statue as he went.

The guardian grunted loudly as Silver ran past, almost fumbling over his own feet in an attempt not to trip over the hedgehog pup. Knuckles shot him a displeased look, until he noticed that the child was trying to tell him something.
While the old echidna wasn't always the best at deciphering what people truly meant with their speech, he was quite skilled with body language. His expression read as quizzical momentarily, which in truth was a rather default for the simple mobian, and without a word trailed after Silver to see what he was up to.
(( Sorry it's quite short. But I am literally half asleep right now. ))

Shadow rose back to his feet watching the Echidna follow the young hedgehog, he had seen his son's gesture, very few things escaped his attention and he was very attentive of his surroundings, watching his son quietly, his eyes looking both mobians over as his mouth arched slightly showing a look of disdain at his son trying to be subtle and secretive.
But the dark hedgehog figured that his son had good intentions, the boy was too innocent to develop any seriously negative feelings towards him, though he didn't want his son to hate him, he wanted to push his son to be the best he could be.
