The sun began to set over the world of Mobius, two hundred years had passed since Sonic's heroism and the world of Mobius has known no better peace than the peace given to them by Sonic, but he could not stem the governments thirst to enhance their military or to deal with potential threats and thus shortly after Sonic's passing, G.U.N turned on it's immortal agent Shadow forcing him to go on the run to protect his existence.
Some time close to where we begin, Shadow's cold heart was warmed by a single maiden who he took on as his wife after a while and together they had one child together, naming him Silver and together they lived happily but what peace the dark hedgehog had found was quickly taken away as his wife was killed in cold blood much like Maria before her, causing the hedgehog to plummet into a similar depression he went through two hundred years earlier, but the one thing that kept him going was his loving son Silver.
But the black hedgehog could not settle down and thus he begrudgingly brought his son along to protect him rather than leave him with an adoptive family and leave him open to be taken as a hostage.
Teaching his son the arts of combat, Shadow and Silver continued on their fleeing path away from G.U.N.
Now the two have come to Angel island, hopefully to catch a breather in Echidnaopolis before continuing their trek.
On the edge of the island, some hours walk away from the city, a minute dash for speedy hedgehog, stood the ultimate lifeform himself, his dark eyes staring down at the world below as angel island slowly and gently floated over the world.

Silver was just a young hedgehog, not even a fledgeling much less old enough to take care of himself. The hoglet couldn't have been more than four years of age, and it showed in his wide eyed gaze of one who had not known the reality of hardships that so jaded his father's eyes.
The child did not know why he didn't play with other children as he had seen in passing glances. He had no idea of his status as 'the offspring of the ultimate lifeform', or that it has put a virtual bounty on his head, making it likely that if he were captured he would be trained as a pet for the benefit of the government. He was young enough to be considered 'tameable', but his father is not so lucky. If the elder black hedgehog were to be caught, he would likely be put down like a dangerous animal.
But Silver did not know this. All of the running he didn't understand didn't dampen his spirit, however. All the hoglet knew is that it was what they did, and it was just their life as they live it. He didn't know it was and abnormal life to live, so he took this path in incredible stride. Though, the youngling was just aware enough to sense his father's sorrow at times...
The waxen child's attitude seemed as bright and pure as the quills he was given. He was more often than not seen with a smile or an air of inquisitiveness, stopping to notice the little things often, which gave him mounds of trouble when trying to keep up with his lightning quick father, the current fastest thing alive.
The hoglet strained to keep up with the black hog, the elder seemingly not aware most of the time that the child could not quite keep up with his old man. Not knowing the full extent of his abilities, Silver did not have enough control himself enough to fly just yet. The little guy just had to cope with hoofing it to catch up.
Finally, upon gaining sight of his father gazing over the edge of this strange island, the kid succumbed to his fatigue and fell face forward into the grass, panting heavily to catch his breath.

The dark hedgehogs ear twitched at the sound of his off-springs approach and fall, turning his head from his view of the world his red eyes looked down at his son, narrowing his eyes he turned and slowly walked over to Silver, coming to a stop in front of him "Get on your feet Silver...You must be able to run the entire distance and still be able to fight a battle at the end of it" Shadow refrained himself from helping his child from getting to his feet, he needed to train his son to become stronger and more independent and often that involved him not helping Silver directly, only ever indirectly by making sure he doesn't get seriously hurt but he is never seen doing it.

The young hog responded simply by slowly working his way into a sitting up position as his panting fit subsided. He idly rubbed his fingers upon the grass and dirt, unable to look at his father any higher than gazing at his shoes, thinking reluctantly at what he was about to say to him.
"But Dad..." the hoglet paused. Silver knew better than to give the elder hedgehog any buts, though now that it's out there, he couldn't stop his thoughts now. "There is no battle..." his words a bit more weak as though he were unsure on his own decision to even mutter them. "There never is..." the light child finished his thought, his gaze averting to the ground to avoid the temptation to meet his father's eyes.
He did not know what had possessed him to talk back, he had always been content just going with what this shadow of a hedgehog had told him with no questions asked, but it was true. This child, just barely transcending out of his toddler phase, could not recall any of these 'battles' that his father so vehemently reminded was the reason for all this harsh training. Indeed, if a struggle ever did happen to him during his short lifetime, he certainly did not remember it.

Shadows hand clenched into a fist tightly as he kept an emotionless gaze down at the little hedgehog, he hadn't ever struck his son in anger or annoyance only ever in the circumstance where Silver was being stupid or when they sparred together. "It's because we have been lucky enough to avoid the enemy for this long..." he said as he crossed his arms and looked off into the distance, not wanting his son to see the tense stance he had before, closing his eyes as he thought for a moment.
"Now get up on your feet son, we will be having a short sparring match, if you don't complain I...Promise to take you to the park and I will carry you back to the city..." his son had constantly asked him about seeing some of the sights around in the echidna city, the hedgehog was begrudging about taking time off from training to let his son explore the city but atleast he could use this to get his son to be more enthusiastic about training.

Silver flinched as he saw a fist clench out of the corner of his eye, his ears flattening to the point of not being visible behind his crown of quills. The young one slowly looked up at the large hedgehog as he spoke, eventually making eye contact. His meekness was not out of fear of being struck, but from the stern tone that struck his ears. The enemy..?, the hoglet's thoughts have been progressively more brave as of late. It was rare for him to question things, but it seemed that it wouldn't be long before he would start to question even more.
Silver watched the black hog closely as his posture changed, loosening his own to be less tense when the elder looked away, feeling more at ease when ruby eyes did not bore into him as the almost ancient hedgehog's gaze could be quite intimidating, even when he didn't mean to be.
At what Shadow had said after, that's when he grabbed the child's full attention. The little hog gasped in delight at the mention of going to the park, his tail pointing up in excitement. You could swear that the kid's eyes lit up both figuratively and literally. The pale hedgeling sprung to his feet with new-found energy and motivation, the questions seemingly erased from his mind for the moment. He did not even care about the prospect of training with his old man until he dropped, this prize was enough to justify the work, especially since the geezer avoided any public eye like the plague.
"Do you really mean it?" His wide eyes practically glittered, the child's white quills and sprightly attitude a complete and perfect contrast to the dark and glum hedgehog from whom he had been made from, as unbelievable as it would seem at a glance.

"I mean what I say Silver" he said as he looked back to the child, the sight of the small child's excitement made the dark hedgehog want to smile but his facial muscles didn't even twitch or change, the motion to smile not even being felt by the hedgehog as he uncrossed his arms and took a few steps back.
"Now come at me Silver and give it your all, if you hesitate for a moment you will pay for it, as usual I will hold back" he said as he took a combat stance his hands clenched into fists, his red eyes narrowing towards his son, over the two hundred years of running from the government, Shadow has perfected his combat style, his only regret being that he couldn't test it against worthy opponents such as Knuckles or Sonic for both Mobians had aged by the time Shadow wished to challenge them once more.

The white hog watched his father's stance closely before looking down at his own feet to adjust himself accordingly. He shuffled his feet until he deemed them appropriately spaced to Shadow's previous standard of stance that he had been shown before. He looked back up to his opponent, mimicking the adult's pose with clenched fists and wore about as intimidating expression the little hog could manage, a cute recreation to mirror the dark hog before him.
Silver ruffled his quills, knowing full-well that the quills of very young hedgehog are in fact much sharper than that of adults. He figured that this could give him some sort of advantage over the veteran, as futile as it may seem for this green, inexperienced youngster to have any chance at victory. With a heavy breath, the smaller hog charged the larger one with reckless abandon.
His greatest weakness started kicking in; his tunnel vision. Silver may have remarkable focus, especially for his age, but this also caused him to become hyper-fixated on his task if his motivation was high enough. The importance of surrounding people and things fade along with his normally high awareness.
The hedgeling could only see his target; the large dark figure he closed in on. He failed to remember or even care about how close to the edge they had initiated their sparring session, and took no heed to the danger it posed.

Shadow knew his son's weakness and had several times exploited it, trying to get his son to overcome it, but it seemed the hedgehog hadn't fixed it and decided to side step and gave a firm push to the back of his son aiming to send him staggering over the edge but the hedgehog intended to simply catching his son before he fell over the edge, his hand shooting out once more to grab him in case he went over the edge.
Memories of past training sessions passed inside the elder hedgehogs mind in quick flashes, training in the Mystic ruins, free running through the ancient structures to increase upper body strength, agility and stamina, the oddity of the session was that it was in the middle of a hurricane, lightning had struck some ruins as Silver was climbing a wall and threatened to hit him as it fell, the black hedgehog from below shot upwards grabbing his son and with incredible speed, used the falling debris as platforms to ascend to the top of the wall.

In a moment in time that Silver's mind could not seem to process, he went from coming so close to hitting his target to being flung over the very edge of the island in what seemed like a blink of an eye. He snapped out of his trance just in time to twist around and grab for the earth he had slipped off of, Shadow's outstretched arm too far out of reach by the time the kid's reflexes kicked in. The child gasped, the peripherals of his mind clearing enough to realize the danger he had just gotten into.
The piece of root he had managed to grab onto that stuck out of the edge of the floating island was old and weak however. The withered tendril jerking him down further down the edge before coming to a decisive stop, leaving him a few feet below from where the grass met the sky. The shock of the situation subsided as he looked up, giving out a small gasp upon fully realizing the severity of the situation. The hedgehog's feet struggled to gain a foothold of the exposed earth, pieces of dirt and rocks being dislodged from his efforts. The hoglet tried hard to bite back his whimpers, knowing that he was not supposed to show signs of fear during sparring sessions. Small grunts can be heard from over the edge, the white hedgehog struggling, his voice laced in desperation.

Shadows eyes widened in shock as he watched his son fall over the edge, not being fast enough to catch him. He shot forwards looked over the ledge, laying on the ground, seeing his son hanging from the root gave him some relief as he held out his hand "Give me your hand Silver" he said calmly as his face was outwardly calm but inside he worried profusely for his son
"Come on son you can do it" he added as he strained to move his hand lower towards him to make it easier to grip onto, his mind going through several scenario's of how he was going to rescue his son if he fell into free fall.
Some involved him removing his power inhibitor rings to enable him to ability to use chaos control to rescue his son, he knew that removing the power inhibitors would fatigue him greatly if he was to use any chaos abilities.
Others involved him free falling after his son, grabbing him and protecting him in his ball form then landing on the earth far below, this would force them to continue on the move and they wouldn't be sleeping in beds tonight but at least his son would be alive and safe.
He wanted to kick himself for not stealing one of the chaos emeralds that G.U.N now used to power their cities, after all the humans put him through he could care less if one of the human cities didn't have power.

A terrible mistake was made; the little hog had looked down, the dizzying height from distance that didn't seem to end causing the pale hedgehog to become even more drained of color. The panic gripped him tightly as his body began to become cold from the fear that penetrated his spine, almost making him become numb.
To be honest, Silver had not experienced many things that could be any scarier than his own father, but this fall would definitely be one of those things. A voice snapped him from his panic, causing him to look up to the source. The wave of relief did not do much to douse the overwhelming panic that shook his core. Without a word the hoglet tried his best to reach up for safety, each footing lost making the effort more and more dangerous as the jerking threatened the security of the root that acted as his lifeline.
Each slip made him whimper, forcing him to recoil his hand to reinforce his hold on the one thing keeping him from a fatal fall. After a few attempts to reach up, the hoglet just curled himself around the root, clamping his eyes tightly closed.
"D-dad..." the hedgeling could not even say anything further than that. He wanted to ask what he should do, but he just couldn't find his voice for it.

"Stay calm Silver I'm coming" said Shadow as he slowly lowered himself over the edge and held onto the edge by his hands as his body extended down to Silver "It should be easy now to grab my leg, just hold on and I'll lift us back up" Shadow remained calm to help Silver deal with the situation, honestly Shadow was roiling on the inside wanting to jump down, grab his son, get back to the top and never let him go, having lost his wife sent Shadow two steps back from the one step he took after dealing with the loss of Maria.
He may not seem like a caring and loving father on the surface but he was not about to lose Silver and was not going to let anything take the last thing he had to live for on this planet, of all the bad things he had done this was the one good thing he put into this world.

His eyes snapped open to see the dark figure lowering over the edge, the voice comforting him enough to get him to uncurl from his paralyzed state. The small hand reached over the black hedgehog's large shoes to take a hold of the other hog's ankle, gripping as tight as he could.
Stay calm Silver. Stay calm, stay calm... he repeated his father's words in his head, loosening his breathing and allowing him to take a hold of his own panic. The elder's own calmness and touch was enough to sooth his mind, making him feel that safety has already come. Despite this, the fine-quilled one closed his eyes to avoid accidentally looking down again and shaking himself up once more. If there was anything that scared him more than the current peril, it was the fear of messing things up anymore than he already had.
Silver made a small noise that was supposed to confirm that he had gotten a good enough grip, tightening his hold on the ankle even more in preparation.

Shadow felt his sons hands gripping his leg, when he heard the small noise he hoisted himself up pushing his waist against the edge and leaning forwards, lowering his hand down and gripping his son tightly before tossing him over the edge and back onto safe ground before stepping off the edge himself and walking away from it brushing his hands together to get rid of the dust.
"I think that's enough of an adrenalin trip today, we are going to the park now" he said looking towards his son with an indifferent expression on his face, his arms crossed once more and his gaze baring on Silver
